A student finishes a QGIS exercise, saves the project and sends the file to the instructor. The analysis is complete—but the map is still difficult to share with a colleague, a client or the public.

That last step, taking a desktop GIS project onto the web, is increasingly part of practical GIS training. A review of publicly listed courses turns up examples around the world that include QGIS Cloud in their teaching: from publishing a first web map to working with cloud databases and web GIS.

FOSS4G is the annual global event of free and open source geographic technologies and open geospatial data hosted by OSGeo. In 2026 it took place in Hiroshima, Japan.

Sourcepole attended FOSS4G Europe 2026 in Timișoara and contributed to the programme with presentations on SensorThings and QGIS Web Client.

QGIS Cloud makes it possible to edit geospatial data collaboratively directly from the web browser. This is especially useful when several users need to update the same dataset without installing or configuring a local QGIS project.
